Expedia Facebook Friends Can Win Trip for Six to Tahiti via Expedia FriendTrips Game on Facebook March 31 2011
Facebook’s Largest Sweepstakes Ever Features More Than $1 Million in Luxury Travel
Tahiti Tourisme, in partnership with Expedia.com, the world’s leading online travel agency, announced today that a luxury vacation to the islands of Tahiti, including overwater accommodations on the famed island of Bora Bora, for six lucky friends is among over a million dollars’ worth of travel prizes that Expedia.com is awarding to Facebook friends.
The Expedia® FriendTrips™ Game is the largest sweepstakes ever hosted on Facebook. The game began today and will run for six weeks. At the game’s conclusion, a vacation to the islands of Tahiti, including Bora Bora, valued up to $49,000 will be awarded to a winning entrant and five friends.
To play, prospective world travelers merely need to become a fan of Expedia’s on Facebook at www.facebook.com/expedia. They will then create a “virtual plane” and can point that plane towards one of a series of vacation destinations. They will populate the plane with five of their Facebook friends, each of whom simply needs to “fan” Expedia to join. The friends are entered to win once they accept the invitation. They can also create planes of their own.
“This is not only the largest sweepstakes ever hosted on Facebook, it is the largest promotion in Expedia’s history, by a wide margin,” said Scott Durchslag, president, Expedia Worldwide. “The contest and the prizes may be grand and extraordinary, but our rationale for doing this is pretty simple: We want to say thanks. Millions of travelers rely on Expedia to help them book the perfect vacation. They’ve helped us become the world's largest online travel agency. And we are grateful for our customers’ loyalty and friendship.”
Should a group of six friends win the trip to the islands of Tahiti, an extraordinary vacation awaits. The trips begins traveling to Tahiti via award-winning Air Tahiti Nui and includes six nights accommodations in three private overwater bungalows perched atop the turquoise water at the InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort. Breakfast and dinner at the resort bookend a shark and ray snorkeling safari, a 4x4 jeep excursion to explore the island’s interior and a private motu (islet) picnic. And Expedia.com will include $10,000 in spending money.
Participants can double and even triple their chance of winning by bringing more Facebook friends into the game. A Facebook friend on one plane can join multiple planes, or they can build different planes of their own. Once an entrant has brought 25 friends into the Expedia FriendTrips Game, their chance of winning doubles. Should they bring 50 friends into the game, their chance of winning triples.
About The Islands of Tahiti
Easier to travel than often imagined, Tahiti’s Faa'a airport is just 8 hours by air from Los Angeles LAX airport, with daily nonstop flights. As far south of the equator as Hawaii is north, Tahiti is halfway between California and Australia, on the same side of the International Date Line as North America, and in the same time zone as Hawaii. Tahiti covers over two million square miles of the South Pacific Ocean and is comprised of 118 islands spread over five great archipelagos. Many islands are crowned with jagged peaks while others appear to barely float above the breaking waves.
